Celebrate the TMNT Legacy - 40 Years
The town of Dover, New Hampshire may not seem significant but it’s far more radical than meets the eye. It’s the city where Kevin Eastman & Peter Laird lived and worked when they created the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles comics in 1983. The duo took the comic to a 1984 Portsmouth comic convention where their success was cemented as the books took off. Their rapid rise to fame quickly made them icons in American Pop Culture. The creators continued to add little Easter Eggs and snippets of the town of Dover, as the books gained popularity. Local residents would delight as they saw their hometown highlighted even in small ways.
To celebrate 40 years of shell shocking adventures, the city honored the franchise with an informational plaque and decorated manhole cover. (The art for the manhole was done by Kevin Eastman!!) These gifts and celebration align with the 400th birthday of the city of Dover!
Happy birthday, Dover, and happy anniversary to Donatello, Raphael, Leonardo, Michaelangelo, and Master Splinter.
